We first visited Berea College in 1973. Was impressive then, and still is today. Happy to support the school and love the Whisk.

We saw the making of this wisk broom on a PBS show one evening. We were captivated by the school, its history and the beautiful utilitarian objects that were truly works of art!! We love that it was hand made by a student. We went online and ordered several items for the holidays as special gifts! This school means so much to so many. It’s offering of free tuition and its history of diversity was so beautiful! It is an honor to support Berea College and its students & faculty!!

As an expat Kentuckian exiled in California, I feel richly connected with my heritage when I look over at my whisk on the hearth. Thank you Berea, for honoring the thread of our shared history -- and weaving it into beautiful things! 01-25-2022

I purchased a commemorative edition and have happily displayed it on my porch as a welcoming element. It's a wonderfully colorful and inviting handicraft.

Description

Beginning with a traditional fantail or turkey wing pattern that can be found in the work of Appalachian craftspeople, student Allison Dallman ’19 added a braided detail to the design of these whisks. These brooms, with their intricate braided handle, make a powerful statement about the skills and lessons our students develop within the Labor Program at Berea. All hand-made craft item colors may vary a little from the color you see on your computer screen.
